Research

Understanding is a two-way street. - E. Roosevelt

Welcome! I’m Katrina - I study the immunological role of T cells: how we categorize them, how they function, and how we can catalyze them to aid the body’s fight against cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune disease.

Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Schietinger Lab at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. I received a PhD in Cancer Biology from The University of Chicago, and an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University.

Please consider this website an introduction to my work, as well as an open invitation to communicate about each other’s findings and collaborate together on future research.

Publications

Being part of the community at leading research institutions has offered incredible opportunities to contribute to science in meaningful ways. The work has been recognized in several top-notch publications, a clear sign of its quality and impact. This achievement reflects not just personal efforts but also the collaborative environment that fosters scientific exploration and discovery.

There’s a strong belief here in making scientific research easy for everyone to access. This approach is all about open access, ensuring that anyone interested can get hold of the research findings. If someone needs a copy of any paper, they just have to ask. It’s about sharing knowledge freely, helping others learn, and making sure that advancements in science reach as wide an audience as possible.

Beyond personal research, there’s a big role in helping other researchers sharpen their work. Whether it’s through formal reviews for journals or just giving advice and feedback, it’s part of contributing back to the science community. This not only helps improve the quality of research out there but also keeps the conversation going about where science is headed. Feedback and collaboration are always on the table, aiming to push the whole field forward together.

Experience

Every day in the lab is a team effort. When you are surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the world, it’s easy to muster the motivation to show up and put in the efforts to keep moving the science forward.

More importantly, however, a remarkable team will inspire a passion for excellence and invoke the contagious dedication to uncovering the meaningful, patient-translatable breakthroughs that make the late nights and endless experiments worth it. I’ve been privileged to be part of a number of those remarkable teams - where collaboration, innovation, and in-the-moment problem solving are not just encouraged but are at the core of everything we do.

These mentors and peers have taken me on an incredible scientific journey so far. Please explore their past and ongoing work for playbooks, ideas, and inspiration for your own research.
